City Congregation: For Forward-Thinking Jews
City Congregation isn’t your typical brand of Judaism.
Located on the west side of Manhattan, City Congregation members celebrate not Judaism, but Humanistic Judaism, a secular Jewish denomination that celebrates the centrality of human judgment and human power from a uniquely Jewish perspective. Rather than focusing on faith, we believe that reason is the source of truth, and that human intelligence and experience are capable of guiding our lives. As Jews we express these beliefs through the culture and practices that have evolved over centuries of Jewish history. Essentially, we proudly represent the intersection of logic and belief.
The City Congregation community transcends all ages, races, genders, and sexual orientations. We’re open-minded, forward thinking, LGBTQ friendly, interfaith, and active both in City Congregation events and beyond (for proof, look no further than our attendance record at every major protest since the inauguration).
But don’t just take our word for it! Instead, rub elbows with our members and let them tell you why they fell in love with City Congregation!
We’re opening our doors on May 6th and May 20th for nonmembers to mix and mingle with our congregation for a midday open house, complete with a meet-and-greet and light conversation. Informal presentations will run throughout the afternoon, and we’ll provide the refreshments, conversation, and literature to fuel your schmoozing. Childcare is available upon request, and patrons of the May 6th open house are free to attend the following KidSchool session as well.
