How can we teach effectively about the Holocaust from a humanist perspective? Rabbi Sivan Maas will discuss Holocaust memorial in the context of Jewish humanism in Israel, and speak more generally about secular Judaism in Israel.

Rabbi Sivan Malkin-Maas was ordained in 2003 as the first secular rabbi in Israel by Rabbi Sherwin Wine. She is one of the world leaders of humanist Judaism. Sivan is the dean of T’murah, the Israeli affiliate of the IISHJ (the International Institute for Secular Humanist Judaism), and facilitated the ordination of TCC’s Rabbi Tzemah Yoreh, among many others. She has a BA in Education and Art from SUNY, and a Masters in Bible and Art from the Schechter Institute, and has taught at many Israeli institutions of higher learning. She officiates at Jewish life cycle events and holidays in Israel and around the world.
