Secular Rosh Hashanah Service 2021

Register for Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur together here

Join City Congregation for a beautiful and moving Rosh Hashanah service of music and contemplation that expresses traditional themes while honoring human reason and human dignity. Our celebration combines familiar passages with innovative language so that cultural Jews can mark these holidays in a way that is consistent with humanistic beliefs. Don’t forget to get apples and honey.

Humanistic Jews observe Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, as a time for self-reflection and self-examination. Traditionally a period of divine judgment and divine terror, the Days of Awe are for us a powerful opportunity for assessment, repair, change, and growth, and some themes of the holiday include: self-reflection, renewal of commitment to Humanistic values and ethics, putting Humanistic Jewish values into action, new beginnings, forgiveness, change, endings and beginnings, resolutions for new behavior, and letting go of undesired behaviors or attitudes.

Services will be led by Rabbi Tzemah Yoreh and feature participatory readings from members. We welcome all who want to join us.  If you need a payment plan or other accommodation, please contact our office. No one is turned away for lack of funds.
