An Evening with the Lower East Side Ecology Center:
A discussion with Kyleen Sanchez
How can we celebrate Tu b’Shvat, New Year for Trees, and take action to achieve Tikkun Olam in our neighborhoods, city and state? Kyleen Sanchez will talk to us about how we can repair the world from an environmental perspective. What actions can we take in our own neighborhoods and on our own blocks to contribute to the global effort to reverse climate change?
Kyleen Sanchez is a Compost Associate of the LES Ecology Center who enjoys learning about the composting world. She has spent years applying her expertise in waste management and policy for the fashion industry. She now spends her time learning about soil health, environmental policy, and the history of agriculture. She represents the organization at Greenmarket sites to collect residential food scraps and educate the public about her organization’s programs, assisting the operations team and leading volunteers in processing food scraps at the East River Compost Yard. Kyleen can be seen driving throughout the Lower East Side in the Center’s iconic graffiti truck or ROTRULES van.
The LES Ecology Center has pioneered community-based models in urban sustainability since 1987. They provide unique e-waste and composting services, environmental stewardship opportunities, and educational programming to all New Yorkers who want to learn about environmental issues and take responsibility for creating solutions through action.
