The Death Penalty Dilemma

On August 1st, 2023, Robert Bowers was sentenced to death for his massacre of 11 people at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. For the Jewish community, the majority of whom are against the death penalty, this sentence has created a painful dilemma; either support the death sentence for the perpetrator of the most lethal antisemitic attack on American soil, or advocate for leniency.

At our Shabbat program on September 8th, Rabbi Tzemah will present a short history exploring Jews’ relationship to capital punishment. His talk will be followed by a moderated community discussion about this case in particular and the death penalty in general.

Our Onegs are potluck so please bring a dessert (i.e. pastry, cookies, or fruit).
