Shavuot: The Origins of Secular Jewish Humanism

Rabbi Sherwin Wine is acknowledged as the founder of Humanistic Judaism as a Jewish denomination more than 50 years ago, and our communities owe him a profound debt. Yet this first openly atheist rabbi did not operate in a vacuum. This Shavuot, the holiday of Jewish learning, we will learn about some of the thought leaders, the liturgists, and the rebels who contributed to the emergence of secular Jewish humanism in North America, Israel, and in Europe, and who keep it vital to this day. This presentation will be led by Rabbi Tzemah.
