Shabbat Cultural Program: Humanistic Judaism and Philosophy

Exedra in a Park Dedicated to the Virtues and Human Activities by Jean-Charles Delafosse

On November 20th, 2020, we had the honor and pleasure of having a City Congregation member present: Ilan Sandberg, who was gracious enough to allow us to share a recording of his presentation.

Philosophy is a way of thinking about the world, the universe, and society. It can also familiarize us with other perspectives and make us more self-aware.

In this talk, Ilan explores ways in which we may be more dependent on philosophy in our daily lives than we realize, just through the kinds of thinking we do to get by in life. Ethical thinking is basic to a philosophical outlook. Ilan also shared his own philosophical questioning and how it led him to humanistic Judaism, and his reflections on philosophical thinking.
