Cultural Program: Making “Group”

On February 3rd, 2021, we had the honor and pleasure of having a City Congregation member, and two guests, present. Producer Jack Lechner, along with his colleagues Ronald Guttman and Dr. Elliot Zeisel, were gracious enough to allow us to share a recording of this program, about producing the web series Group.

City Congregation member Jack Lechner is an executive producer on the web series Group, about the ups and downs of a therapy group in New York City.  The patients are played by actors, who improvise their dialogue within scripted parameters, while the therapist is played by Dr. Elliot Zeisel, a real practitioner who has been leading groups for four decades. The series has received considerable acclaim; in a feature article, The Atlantic called it “riveting.”  Jack talked about how the series came to be, as well as the challenges of producing Season Two during the pandemic.
